There are only a couple of weeks remaining until prospects in the 2024 class put pen to paper during the Early Signing Period. Rather than waiting until December, four-star cornerback Jamari Howard has decided that he's ready to make his college announcement.

Howard is focused on five programs entering Friday; Florida State, Florida, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Maryland. He was previously committed to the Spartans but the Seminoles and Gators have been jockeying for the lead in his recruitment over the last couple of months.

Florida State has been pursuing Howard for well over a year after the coaching staff extended him a scholarship in January 2022. He's been on campus multiple times since the calendar flipped to 2023 as Howard took an unofficial visit in March and returned for the Seminole Showcase in July. He also was in attendance for the season-opening win against LSU in Orlando.

A South Florida native, the abundance of 305 natives on the roster is something that has caught Howard's eye. There are multiple starters at Florida State who hail from Miami, including defensive end Patrick Payton, linebacker Tatum Bethune, and center Maurice Smith.

"I like how everybody from the crib here plays," Howard said to NoleGameday previously. "They're coming up. Florida State, a couple years they were a little down bad but they're coming up."

The potential addition of Howard to #Tribe24 would add another feather in the cap for first-year defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. The Seminoles already have five-star safety KJ Bolden, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III, and three-star safety CJ Heard pledged in a class that ranks in the top-5 in the country.

"I feel great. I feel good," Howard said previously. "I just feel like I could probably play here."

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback is regarded as the No. 91 overall prospect, the No. 7 CB, and the No. 14 in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.

As a junior, Howard played both ways for Hialeah Westland High School. He finished with 33 tackles, 15 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one punt return for a touchdown.

He chose to transfer to Miami Norland Senior High School for his final season at the prep level. Howard has totaled 30 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and one blocked kick in nine appearances.
