Georgia Depth Chart Check Up - Where Do the Dawgs Stand on Offense

As the Georgia Bulldogs prepare for their first spring scrimmage on Saturday, we thought it a good idea to take a look at the depth chart for the offense.

The Georgia Bulldogs will put their pads on Thursday afternoon to continue to work to get better for the fifth time this spring practice session. With Saturday expecting to be their first scrimmage of the offseason, we thought it would be a good idea to update the depth chart based on what we have seen, heard, and now know about this Georgia roster.

Georgia Depth Chart - Offense

Quarterback

  • Carson Beck, SR
  • Gunner Stockton, RSo
  • Ryan Puglisi, Fr

Georgia's quarterback room has been rather anticlimactic this offseason. They know they have one of the sport's best returning starters in Carson Beck so there's been no "QB Battle" to talk about. Gunner Stockton appears to be the solid No. 2 and the freshman Ryan Puglisi has shown tremendous flashes but is still drinking from a firehouse at times.

Running Back

  • Roderick Robinson, SO / Trevor Etienne, SR
  • Andrew Paul, RFr
  • Cash Jones, Jr
  • Chauncey Bowens, FR

This group has been featured this spring by returning sophomore Roderick Robinson and recent transfer Trevor Etienne with Branson Robinson still on the mend from knee surgery last fall. Roderick Robinson has been virtually un-tackleable during practice since defensive backs aren't allowed to tackle the lower body of these backs. He's also shown the ability to make plays out of the backfield. Etienne has shown tremendous flashes of the playmaking abilities that made him a highly sought-after transfer this offseason.

Tight End

  • Oscar Delp, Jr
  • Lawson Luckie, So
  • Jaden Redell, Fr
  • Colton Heinrich, Fr

With freshman Jaden Redell currently battling a hamstring issue, this room has gotten tremendously thin this spring. Pearce Spurlin's promising career has been cut short, and Ben Yurosek — the Stanford transfer — won't be on campus until the summer. However, Delp has been a rep hound his entire career at Georgia and has continued that display of toughness this spring. Luckie has absorbed the additional reps without blinking an eye according to sources, and the freshman Redell — despite the hamstring — has impressed sources during his first three months on campus, already having run over 22 MPH at 6'6, 240 pounds.

Wide Receiver

  • X - Dillon Bell / Colbie Young / Tyler Williams
  • Z - RaRa Thomas / Arian Smith / Mike Jackson III
  • $ - Dom Lovett / Anthony Evans / Sacovie White

Georgia's familiar faces — Dillon Bell, Arian Smith, RaRa Thomas, and Dom Lovett — have been themselves this spring and led a very fresh group. With the combination of a new receiver coach in James Coley and three new transfers in, there's been a tremendous amount of change. Colbie Young has been the talk of spring so far, the lengthy target has been a mismatch this spring despite still dealing with an ankle issue.

Offensive Line

This group was left for last because it's rather anticlimactic it seems this spring for the O-Line. The lone question of "How do we replace Sedrick Van Pran?" appeared to be simply an outside narrative as the building has been raving about Jared Wilson who will be Georgia's starter this season. Earnest Greene (LT), Micah Morris and Dylan Fairchild (LG), Tate Ratledge (RG) and Xavier Truss (RT) round out the first group with Jamal Meriweather (LT) Daniel Calhoun (OG), and Monroe Freeling (RT) all getting meaningful reps. This unit appears to be ready for fall camp concerning the decisions on who will travel with this squad and play meaningful minutes.

Spring Practice Injury Update

A bit anticlimactic from an injury standpoint today, though Smart did update a few lingering issues. No new injuries it seems:

  • WR, Colbie Young is still battling an ankle issue but Smart mentioned he progressed throughout the week last week and should be able to do even more today during their first practice of the week.
  • Bo Hughley had left shoulder surgery for a labrum. (out for spring)
  • TID had a left foot fracture, he had surgery following the season, will miss spring practice. Will be back for fall camp.
  • Kris Jones had surgery on his foot, he will be practicing but will be limited.
  • Christen Miller had surgery on his meniscus after the Orange Bowl.
  • Smael Mondon underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his foot, he will be ready for fall camp.
  • Branson Robinson is at 7 or 8 months recovery, and looks good but will not be ready for spring.
  • Malaki Starks had a shoulder surgery and will be limited in the spring.
  • Rara Thomas is still coming off his foot injury and will not be at full speed.
  • Damon Wilson had meniscus repair, he's full activity now.
  • Demello Jones is dealing with a hamstring.
  • Pearce Spurlin will medically retire due to a heart condition.
