Sophomore Surge: How Does Branson Robinson's Role Progress?

Georgia running back Branson Robinson is entering his second season with the program, so how will his role progress during his sophomore season?

The Georgia Bulldogs have a litany of players who are entering their second year with the program, and several of them were valuable contributors as true freshmen. As these players gain experience, their roles will continue to grow. Spring practice is a pivotal point in the offseason to see how players' careers are progressing and will provide a quick preview of what could be in store for these players in 2023.

The Dawgs roll in and roll out pristine talent at the running back position like nobody's business. Since 2018, the Bulldogs have had five players taken in the NFL draft at the running back position, and with Kenny McIntosh now off to the league himself, Georgia will need to figure out who their next rotation of backs will be

Sophomore Branson Robinson shined during his true freshman season. He piled up 330 rushing yards on 68 attempts along with three touchdowns. His biggest game of the season came against the Auburn Tigers in which he rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. In that game, Robinson became the first true freshman running back in program history to rush for over 95 yards in his first 10-plus carry performance since Sony Michel in 2014.

With McIntosh no longer in the picture, it is safe to assume that Robinson will now slide into the third spot on the depth chart behind the veteran tandem of Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards. Even with Edwards and Milton likely leading the way though, Georgia has a propensity to consistently rotate in three different guys at running back during games.

Other news that will impact Robinson is Mike Bobo becoming the program's new offensive coordinator as Todd Monken is now with the Baltimore Ravens. Bobo has helped lead some of the most efficient rushing offenses in the country, and with the amount of talent the Bulldogs have at that position, it could transcend into a massive sophomore season for Robinson.

Robinson will have to earn his snaps just like any other player on Georgia's roster, but if his freshman season was a taste of what is to come, then he could be on the verge of a sophomore surge type of season in 2023.
