Will Georgia Football have a 1,000-yard Receiver in 2024?

Terrence Edwards stands alone as the only 1,000-yard receiver in Georgia history. Will that change in 2024?

Of all the incredible receivers and tight ends that have come through the Georgia program, just one has reached the 1,000-yard threshold. Only the legendary Terrence Edwards hit that mark, totaling 1,004 yards in 2002.

But in the new 12-team College Football Playoff era, where Georgia could play as many as 17 games, could we see someone else eclipse that mark? Here are some of the candidates.

Georgia's All-Time Single Season Receiving Leaders

  1. Terrence Edwards - 1,004 - 2002
  2. Brice Hunter - 970 - 1993
  3. A. J. Green - 963 - 2008
  4. Tavarres King - 950 - 2012
  5. Brock Bowers - 942 - 2022

Dominic Lovett is Georgia's leading returning receiver, after hauling in 54 catches for 613 yards in his debut season with Georgia after transferring over from Missouri. He's a true WR1, and with the departures of Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers to the NFL, he should be in for a bigger rep share and more targets.

A couple of other names to watch are Rara Thomas and Dillon Bell. Thomas played in just 11 games after dealing with some injuries, but made the most of his opportunities, catching 23 passes and averaging 16.7 yards per catch. Bell is a dark horse, but he's the leading candidate to take over the short pass game from Bowers and McConkey. He's a playmaker in the open field and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will find quick ways to get the ball in his hands.

The good news for all of Georgia's receivers is quarterback Carson Beck is back for his senior season after finishing third nationally in passing yards last year (3,941). Beck will be looking to increase those numbers in his second full season as the starting quarterback as he makes a run for the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

If there was ever a season for Edwards' record to fall, 2024 sure seems like it.
