Jalen Carter Making Noise with the Philadelphia Eagles

Former Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter is already making noise with his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

We aren't too far removed from a litany of former Bulldogs being selected in this year's NFL draft, ten of them, to be exact. Defensive lineman Jalen Carter was the first name off of the board out of the bunch. The Philadelphia Eagles selected Carter with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the draft.

Carter joined former teammates Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Nolan Smith, and Kelee Ringo with the Eagles and is now preparing to make a strong impression during his inaugural season as a professional. Carter was considered by many to be the best player in this year's draft class, which means there will be a lot of eyes on him to see how he performs as a rookie.

Based on the early noise that has come out of the Eagles' camp, it sounds like there will be a lot of excitement from Carter in his first season in Philadelphia. The former college football standout is getting into form to be an early contributor for his new team, and his development is off to a great start.

Dave Spadaro clarified that by saying Carter “broke a sled” he means it in a way that describes how powerful and explosive the former Bulldog is. Not that he literally broke a tackling sled at practice.

Josh Sweat, a defensive end for the Eagles, had some good things to say about Carter, Smith, and Ringo in regard to how impressive they have been thus far. “They’re great. The work ethic is crazy for both of em. They’re professionals, man," said Sweat. "They’re here to learn and are improving quickly. They’ve been on Championship teams already, they are about their business.”

Smith spoke about what it has been like playing with some of his former teammates on Chris Long's "Green Light" podcast, and here is what he had to say:

"You know, I was excited. I get to be with some of my brothers, some of my guys that I've already won with and already have a previous connection with. Coach Sirianni says it all the time 'We're trying to build a connection here'. And I just feel like, once you have that already, you can push the envelope a little more. Like, me and JD (Jordan Davis) could go a little bit harder or I can say 'Come on JD, let's get another workout in.'"

The Eagles made it very apparent that they were hunting after defensive players from Georgia's roster as they selected three of them in this year's draft after picking up two the year prior. They came up just short of winning a Super Bowl this past season, so perhaps the group of former Bulldogs can help get the Eagles to the promise land in 2023.
