Georgia Tech Clinches Series Win Over Tennessee Tech With a 10-4 Victory

Georgia Tech Baseball is now 6-0 after another series clinching win

Georgia Tech moved to 5-0 yesterday after defeating Tennessee Tech in their opening game of the weekend series. Dawson Brown struck out 12 batters and the offense ignited later in the game and GT cruised to a 12-3 win. Today, the Yellow Jackets looked to remain undefeated while also clinching the series against Tennessee Tech.

Logan McGuire was on the mound for Georgia Tech today and hoped to have an outing similar to his last.

Here is the starting lineup that the Yellow Jackets used today. Still no Drew Compton in the starting lineup.

2. IF- Angelo Dispigna

3. RF- Stephen Reid

There was no action in the 1st inning. McGuire struck out three batters and then all three Georgia Tech at-bats resulted in a ground out or pop out.

McGuire started off the 2nd with a walk and then after a pop-out, Tennessee Tech singled to give them two runners on with one out. McGuire then walked another batter to load the bases and then Tennessee Tech got the first run of the game on a wild pitch to lead 1-0.

The wild pitches did not stop there though as McGuire threw another one that scored another run for Tennessee Tech and made it 2-0. Tennessee Tech would score one more run courtesy of a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 before GT could get their third out.

After three walks gave Georgia Tech a chance to do some damage on offense in the bottom of the inning, they could not take advantage and Tennessee Tech remained on top 3-0 going to the 3rd.

Tennessee Tech had a lead-off home run to make it 4-0 and it looked as if the undefeated start was going to come to an end today for the Yellow Jackets, but there was a long way to go.

Georgia Tech was still hitless going into the bottom of the third, but they managed to get the bases loaded with two walks and a hit-by pitch. The Yellow Jackets had two outs and Finley was up to bat with a chance to cut into the lead. A balk by the Tennessee Tech pitcher brought in one run and cut the lead to 4-1. After Finley was hit by the pitch to reload the bases, freshman Tyler Minnick had a chance to bring more runs in for the Yellow Jackets, but he struck out looking and the game went to the 4th inning.

After a quick top of the inning, Georgia Tech's offense was finally able to get going. After a pair of walks, Dispigna reached on a fielders choice to make it 4-2 and the Reid blasted a two-run home run to tie the game.

After Reid hit the home run, it was all Georgia Tech from there.

GT continued the scoring in the fifth with RBI double from Minnick and they had their first lead of the game.

With it only being a one run lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, Georgia Tech needed some insurance runs to make sure they got the victory. Dispigna did just that by hitting a two-run home run to make it 7-4 and then Rubenstein sealed the win with a three-run shot to make it 10-4.

The offense does not deserve all of the credit. The pitching steadied after McGuire exited and Finateri pitched 4.2 innings, giving up only one unearned run and striking out four. Cody Carwile gave one solid inning and then Busse finished the game by pitching two innings and struck out three batters. Busse and Carwile did not give up any runs.
