Georgia Tech Basketball vs Syracuse: Preview and Prediction

Can Georgia Tech Basketball upset Syracuse on the road?

Only two games left for Georgia Tech basketball before they go to Greensboro to play in the ACC Tournament. Both games are on the road and the first up is a trip to Syracuse. Syracuse won the first game between the two teams back in January 80-63.

Syracuse (16-13, 9-9 ACC) begins the week in ninth place in the conference standings and finishes out the regular season at home against Tech and Wake Forest. The Orange are 3-6 since beating the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta on Jan. 21, dropping their next three games, winning three in a row, then losing their last three against Duke, Clemson, and Pitt. Syracuse is 4-4 in conference play at home (per Georgia Tech PR).

Syracuse has the eighth-ranked offense and the ninth-ranked defense in the ACC, with the offense shooting the fourth-best percentage from three-point range. The Orange are led by Joseph Girard, who is the fifth-leading scorer in the ACC at 16.9 PPG, and Girard had 28 points in the win over Georgia Tech last time. Limiting him is going to be a priority for Georgia Tech in the game tonight.

Ja'von Franklin

Ja'von Franklin has been playing well for Georgia Tech in the month of February

Syracuse has a reputation for being one of the toughest environments to play in in the ACC and Georgia Tech has not won an ACC road game this season. It won't be easy for Georgia Tech to get one tonight.

Since Terry returned from his hamstring injury (last seven games), Tech has averaged 73 points per game, connected on 45.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 38.6 percent of its three-point attempts. In the four games he missed, Tech averaged 53.8 points and hit 34.5 percent of its field goals and 25.2 percent of its threes (Per Georgia Tech PR).

Tech continues to lead the ACC in three-point defense and is 26th nationally, allowing 30.2 percent from distance (Per Georgia Tech PR).

The offensive execution for Georgia Tech has been the biggest reason for their steady play in the month of February. Tech has achieved ACC season highs in field goal percentage in each of its last two games (47.3 vs. Pittsburgh, 48.2 vs. Louisville). The Jackets have shot better than Saturday’s 48.2 percent only twice (North Alabama, Alabama State) all season (Per Georgia Tech PR).

Prediction

Georgia Tech Basketball

Can Georgia Tech upset Syracuse on the road tonight?

Georgia Tech has been playing well in the month of February and Syracuse has not been playing well as of late and has lost their last three games by double-digits. There is a window for Georgia Tech to pull an upset tonight if they can continue to hit shots against the zone defense from Syracuse and the defense can hold Girard to below his scoring averages. However, Georgia Tech does not play well on the road and Syracuse is a tough environment. The Orange win a close game tonight.

Final Score: Syracuse 67, Georgia Tech 63
