Everything From Georgia Tech Defensive Tackle Zeek Biggers After Thursday's Practice

Georgia Tech is hoping to make a big turnaround on defense this season and there might not be a unit in need of a turnaround more than the run defense. Georgia Tech had one of the worst run defenses in the country last year, but they do return some leaders up front and one of those players is defensive tackle Zeek Biggers. Biggers is going to be one of the key players on defense and he spoke with the media after pracitce on Thursday. Here is everything that he had to say.

1. On Coach Simpson...

"Been building a good relationship. Me with him every day, honestly. Watching film, watching NFL tape, line tape, just everything. And I like how he coaches, he's a great coach, he's gonna push you, he's gonna coach you hard, but he's gonna push you and teach you every technique, and he break down everything fundamental wise. so I love it."

2. On how much he has progressed from his first year...

"I've progressed a lot with weight, just my mentality, growing up, and I grew up in this program. So, this definitely seeing where I was when I came in, heavy, little chubby kids, now I'm all toned up and stuff. So I definitely -- it's a bit different. I love it."

3. On how the defense is progressing under the new defensive coaches...

"I feel like we're making big steps. Obviously, there's always more improvement to make, but we're making a big step, and we're going to have a lot come in this season, I'm sure."

4. On playing different positions along the line...

"I mean, I consider all of these versatile, but being able to sometimes line up on the edge, line up in the three, line up in those, not just being true to one position. So I feel like you're making me more versatile in that way, being able to work different moves and knowing how I got to read the blocks coming off of edge or coming off of three so definitely. It's not hard, not smooth. No, I don't really got a preference. I like to play it all. As long as I'm in, I can play it all."

5. On how knowing different positions helps the unit...

"It helps with knowing every position like somebody might need help or one play, you be able to break it down to 'em and just tell 'em how, what to do, how to do it. Just help them, it's basically just being able to like do everything, and it just makes us, better as a whole because we know what the next man beside us is doing."

6. On Horace Lockett...

His presence definitely felt he's a big guy. So being along with him, we're going to make a lot of plays. We're going to clog it up that middle. So, yeah, but I expect a lot out of him this season. Definitely going to be, should be one of the top defensive tackles this year, for sure."
