Georgia Tech lands in Sporting News early bowl projections

In this story:
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have not made a bowl game since the 2018 season, but that could change in 2023 according to the latest bowl projections from Sporting News' Bill Bender.
Bender has Georgia Tech going to the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida. The Yellow Jackets' opponent comes from the SEC and Bender has Georgia Tech facing the Auburn Tigers and their first-year head coach Hugh Freeze.
Here is what 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford had to say about that potential matchup:
"First-year coach Hugh Freeze wants nothing more than to shock all by contending in the SEC West against several national heavyweights, but Auburn's roster just isn't there yet. He made notable strides through portal acquisitions and seems to have this ship heading in the right direction, but it takes more than one season to go from the bottom tier to the top. If Brent Key gets to a bowl game with the Yellow Jackets in 2023, that's a job well done."
This would be an interesting matchup of first-year head coaches. Auburn hired Freeze away from Liberty and the Tigers have hit the portal heavily this offseason in hopes of overachieving in his first season. Both coaches would hope to win this game and give their program a boost heading into the 2024 season.
Making a bowl game would likely help Key in recruiting, where he is already finding success this offseason.
While Georgia Tech does have a tough schedule, there are winnable games on the schedule that can get them to that six-win threshold. Games against South Carolina State, Bowling Green, Boston College, Virginia, and Syracuse are games in which Georgia Tech might be favored. The potential swing games on this schedule are likely to be Louisville, North Carolina, Miami, and Wake Forest, games in which Georgia Tech is only going to be a slight underdog.
The Yellow Jackets are going to be heavy underdogs against Ole Miss, Clemson, and Georgia and I don't think they can win those games.
Georgia Tech will kick off its 2023 season against Louisville in Mercedes Benz Stadium on Friday, Sept. 1st. The game will kick off at 7:30 and be televised on ESPN.
