Bulldogs and Gaels square off in a top-25 matchup in WCC regular-season finale

The Gonzaga Bulldogs visit the Saint Mary's Gaels in a top-25 matchup between the two hottest teams in the West Coast Conference.

No. 23 Gonzaga (23-6, 13-2 WCC) is riding a seven-game winning streak after taking down San Francisco, 86-68, on Thursday at the Chase Center to clinch the No. 2 seed in the WCC Tournament. Graham Ike led the way with 26 points, Nolan Hickman scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half, while Ryan Nembhard added 15 points and nine rebounds. The Zags led by one point at halftime before opening the second half on a 24-3 scoring run to pull away late.

In WCC games, Ike leads the league in scoring (18.1 points per game) and is third in field goal percentage at 65.1%. Per KenPom, he's top fifth in effective field goal percentage (65.4%) and No. 1 in true-shooting percentage (68.8%).

Since its win streak began on Feb. 7, Gonzaga ranks fifth in the country in offensive efficiency per Bart Torvik. It's averaging 92.0 points on 56.4% shooting from the field in that span. The Bulldogs have won 12 of its last 13 games with its lone loss in that span coming to Saint Mary's in a 64-62 game in Spokane.

No. 17 Saint Mary's (24-6, 15-0 WCC) clinched the WCC regular season title outright for the first time since 2011-12 with an 83-57 win over Pepperdine on Thursday. The 26-point victory extended the Gaels' win streak to 16 games, the longest active streak in the nation. Since its 3-5 start to the season, Saint Mary's has won 21 of its last 22 games.

With a win Saturday, the Gaels would be the first non-Gonzaga team to finish undefeated in WCC play since Pepperdine in 1991-92.

Saint Mary's topped Gonzaga in the first matchup this season, 64-62, at The Kennel. The Bulldogs led for much of the first half after getting out to an 11-4 start, though the Gaels weathered the initial storm slowly but surely before jumping ahead 60-55 in the second half following a 6-0 scoring run. Gonzaga shot just 33.3% from the field after halftime.

Saturday marks the 13th time the Zags and Gaels meet with both ranked in the top 25. Gonzaga won 10 of the first 12 meetings.
