Bulldogs close three-game road stretch against the Toreros

The Gonzaga Bulldogs head south to sunny San Diego, California, where they'll conclude their three-game road stint against a Toreros squad still looking for its first win in West Coast Conference play.

Gonzaga (12-5, 3-1) rode a strong second-half performance to an 86-61 victory at Pepperdine on Thursday, as it shot 70.4% from the field after halftime and outscored the Waves 46-21 over the final 20 minutes. Graham Ike led the way with 24 points, Nolan Hickman added 19 as the Bulldogs went 8-for-20 from beyond the arc. Ben Gregg added five points, four assists and 10 rebounds in his first career start.

Pepperdine struggled offensively in the second half with its top two scorers held in check. Michael Ajayi (17.6 points per game, No. 1 in the WCC) and Houston Mallette (16.3 points per game, No. 2 in the WCC) combined for just 25 points and shot 8-for-25 from the field.

The win was the 700th in Mark Few's illustrious 25-year career at the helm of the Bulldogs. Few became the second-fastest to reach that milestone behind Kentucky's Adolph Rupp.

San Diego (10-9, 0-4 WCC) fell victim to a tough draw to start WCC play with double-digit losses to Saint Mary's, Gonzaga and San Francisco. It nearly picked up its first league win over Pepperdine before squandering a 15-point lead at home last week. The Toreros haven't started WCC play 0-5 since the 2003-04 season when they lost their first seven conference games.

Leading scorer Deuce Turner averages 20.0 points in league action, the third-most in the WCC. Wayne McKinney III, who did not play in the first meeting with the Zags, is second on the team with 14.6 points per game.

The Bulldogs scored 27 points off 19 turnovers in a 101-74 victory over the Toreros on Jan 6. Ben Gregg recorded a career-high 22 points and four steals off the bench.
