2024 NCAA Tournament bracketology: Gonzaga projected to earn 7-seed on Selection Sunday

Notable bracketologists have the Bulldogs on the 7-seed line days before Selection Sunday

Bracketologists and advanced metrics see eye-to-eye when it comes to where the Gonzaga Bulldogs will be seeded in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi projects Gonzaga (25-7, 14-2 WCC) will be on the 7-seed line in the Midwest Region, pitting it in a first-round matchup against 10-seed Oklahoma in Indianapolis, where the Zags and Sooners last met in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

CBS Sports' Jerry Palm also has the Bulldogs as a 7-seed, only in the East Region, in a matchup with 10-seed New Mexico. The Lobos (26-9, 10-8 MWC) finished sixth in the Mountain West league standings and took down Air Force and Boise State in the conference tournament, setting up a matchup with Colorado State in the semifinal round on Friday.

Bart Torvik's TourneyCast model has a similar outlook for the Bulldogs as its bracketologists counterparts. The advanced metric gives Gonzaga a 100% at getting an at-large bid on Selection Sunday, with the most likely seed being a 7-seed. It has a 29.9% chance of extending the program's Sweet 16 appearance streak to nine, per Torvik.

Mark Few's program has appeared in the last 24 NCAA Tournaments, the second-longest active streak behind Michigan State (25 consecutive appearances). Only three other programs in Division-I men's basketball history have made it to the Sweet 16 in eight straight postseasons. The Bulldogs have won at least one game in the Big Dance since they lost to Stephen Curry and 7-seed Davidson in 2008.

Gonzaga has been a 4-seed or better in the NCAA Tournament since 2016. The last time it was a double-digit seed was in 2016 when its Sweet 16 streak began, as Domantas Sabonis and company pulled off upsets against 6-seed Seton Hall and 3-seed Utah in Denver, Colorado, before falling to 10-seed Syracuse in the Midwest Regional final.

Selection Sunday will reveal the full 68-team field on Sunday, 3 p.m. PST on CBS.
