Gonzaga coaches visit Zoom Diallo; 2024 recruiting class update

In this story:
Gonzaga's coaching staff has hit the recruiting trail hard with weeks to go until the 2023-24 college basketball tips off. On Wednesday, the staff paid a visit to see Prolific Prep product and five-star point guard Zoom Diallo.
This is the second trip to Napa Valley, California, in two weeks for Gonzaga's coaches, as they continue to make Diallo their top priority in the 2024 recruiting class.
Diallo, the No. 19 player in the class according to 247Sports, took an official visit to Spokane in January and was in attendance for Gonzaga's win over Portland.
After initially revealing his top six schools prior to his winter visit, Diallo has seemingly kept his recruitment open throughout 2023. In September alone, he's taken official visits with USC, Alabama and Washington, on top of a scheduled visit with Arizona in October, according to 247Sports.
Diallo set a deadline to make a decision by the fall of his senior year, though there's no clear-cut favorite to land the top-ranked point guard.
While Diallo considers his options, here's a look at where Gonzaga stands with its other targets in the 2024 class.
ASA NEWELL - MONTVERDE ACADEMY
The five-star recruit out of Montverde Academy listed Gonzaga, Alabama, Georgia and Texas in his final list of schools. Newell has visited each of the final four schools, though he does not have a time frame for his commitment.
The Zags could be facing an uphill battle in the recruiting process, as On3.com and Rivals.com expect Newell to commit to Georgia and reunite with his older brother Jaden. Newell has a scheduled visit with Georgia on Oct. 7, the weekend of the annual Kraziness in the Kennel event. Geography alone makes the recruitment challenging, though assistant coach R-Jay Barsh's ties to Florida hoops have been beneficial in the process.
Gonzaga also has a history recruiting talent from Montverde Academy, as Filip Petrusev, Andrew Nembhard and younger brother Ryan all attended the high school basketball powerhouse.
TRENT PERRY - HARVARD WESTLAKE
Gonzaga jumped into the Perry sweepstakes in a big way last Friday with an official offer. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard is a consensus four-star recruit and top-60 player in the 2024 class.
Teammates with 2025 Gonzaga target Nik Khamenia, Perry emerged as a top-10 recruit in the state of California following a stellar junior season. Since then, he's fielded over a dozen Division-1 offers.
Perry has taken official visits with Vanderbilt, Colorado, Saint Mary's and USC, though UCLA has made a late push in the recruiting process. Rivals.com gives the Bruins the best chance to land Perry, while On3.com predicts the Buffaloes will land his commitment.
Perry has not set a timetable for his commitment.
