Indiana Makes Top 5 For 2024 4-Star Avery Howell

Avery Howell, a four-star prospect in the class of 2024, announced her top five college choices on Thursday, and coach Teri Moren and the Indiana women's basketball team made the cut. Howell is from Boise, Idaho, and also included USC, Utah, Washington and Duke in her final five.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The recruiting grind never stops for Teri Moren and the Indiana Hoosiers, as IU landed in the top five for four-star prospect Avery Howell on Wednesday.

Howell is ranked as the No. 45 overall player in the class of 2024 by ESPN's HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings, and is top-rated player in the state of Idaho. She was also named Idaho's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2023.

Moren and the Indiana women's basketball team are hot on the trail for Howell and five-star Mikayla Blakes, who recently included the Hoosiers in her top seven for her college decision. Indiana also has a high-profile commit in the class of 2025 in Hamilton Southeastern product Maya Makalusky, who HoosiersNow.com profiled in July.

Howell stars at Boise High School in Idaho, and plays for the team Meta Hoops on the AAU circuit. Indiana is the only school located in the Midwest that she included in her top five, with Duke, Washington, USC and Utah as the other competitors.

With conference expansion coming in 2024, three of the schools in Howell's top five will all be in the Big Ten by the time she enters college, including Indiana, USC and Washington.

Indiana has a senior-heavy team for 2023-24 with Arielle Wisne, Sara Scalia and Mackenzie Holmes all in their fifth and final seasons at the college level. Similarly, Chloe Moore-McNeil and Sydney Parrish are seniors entering their fourth seasons of college basketball, and have the potential to leave IU at the season's end.

Thus, Moren and the coaching staff need to do all they can to restock the cupboard with freshmen talent. They've already started that process with current freshmen Julianna LaMendola and Lenée Beaumont, as well as 2025 commit Makalusky. And should they land Howell, the influx of talent into Indiana women's basketball will only continue to grow.
