BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Hoosier senior forward Mackenzie Holmes earned a spot on The Athletic Women's Basketball All-America First Team voted on by a panel of the outlet's writers as the program's first first-team honoree.

The Gorham, Maine native also finished third in the player of the year voting.

Holmes leads the Hoosiers by averaging 22.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 68.8 percent from the floor, the best in the conference and second best in the entire nation.

The skilled forward with soft hands and great footwork as described by head coach Teri Moren has led the Hoosiers in scoring on 24 occasions this season and has reached double-figure scoring in all 30 contests. This led the Hoosiers to a 27-3 overall record with still more to play.

Not only is Holmes a proficient scorer, but she's also sound on defense as her 1.9 blocks per game rank second in the Big Ten and earned her the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, the first athlete with this honor in Hoosier program history.

She's also on the All-Big Ten first team for her second All-Big Ten selection in her career. Recently she was named a 2023 Lisa Leslie Award finalist and is the first Hoosier to appear on the national ballot. Holmes is on the Wooden Award national ballot, is a Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy semifinalist and is on the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year watch list too.

Holmes has previously earned All-American honorable mention honors from the Associated Press in 2021 and WBCA in 2022.

Up next, the Hoosiers await Selection Sunday on March 12 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN to see where their NCAA Tournament journey will begin.
