Point Spread: Hoosiers Modest Underdog in Tough Road Trip to Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers has been a thorn in the side of Indiana lately, and when the two teams get together in New Jersey on Tuesday night, the Hoosiers are looking to end a three-game losing streak at Jersey Mike's Arena.

The Scarlet Knights have a nice home-court advantage in their loud and raucous 8,000-seat arena, which is why they are a 2.5-point favorite over the Hoosiers, according to the SISportsbook.com gambling website. The over/under is 140.5.

That's despite the fact that Rutgers is just 8-6 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten. Dustin Schutte, our Big Ten writer for HoosiersNow.com, has the Scarlet Knights dead last at No. 14 in this week's conference power rankings.

Indiana is 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten after Saturday's big win over Ohio State. They have one road win already in league play, winning at Michigan, and would love to steal one here in New Jersey.

That hasn't been easy. They lost 63-48 here a year ago, losing badly on Dec. 3, 2022 after wining their first seven games. They played without Jalen Hood-Schifino in that game, and Indiana's guards were a combined 3-for-22 shooting.

Rutgers also won 74-63 on Feb. 24, 2021 and 66-58 on Jan. 30, 2019. Rutgers had actually won six straight in the series until Indiana beat them 66-60 in Bloomington on Feb. 7, 2023.
