What Trey Galloway Said After Indiana's 85-69 Loss to Miami in NCAA Tournament

Here's what Indiana junior guard Trey Galloway said after the Hoosiers' 85-69 loss to No. 5 seed Miami in the NCAA Tournament.

Indiana's season came to and end on Sunday night in Albany, N.Y. with an 85-69 loss to Miami in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.

Junior guard Trey Galloway scored eight points with five steals, three rebounds and two assists. Here's what Galloway said after the game.

Galloway: Just thinking about everybody, the coaches, GAs, managers, everybody that goes into the season that gets unnoticed, just thankful for them. Obviously it’s not the way we wanted to end the season, but you’ve got to look back on it and take it all in because it’s only motivation for me and guys coming back next year. I think in the end it’s all about just being together as a family and it sucks that it has to end like that, but just thinking back on all the memories this season and accomplishments we had and thanking our seniors.

Question: Trey, you guys obviously struggled in the first half, but then Miller hits the three right at the end of the half, you come out and hit one to start the half and all of a sudden you guys have the lead, but then it just fell apart again. When you got ahead, what happened after that?

Galloway: I think just at the end of the day they kind of out-toughed us. We can’t have that in the tournament because everyone is desperate. So I think just the offensive rebounding killed us, and I think a lot of the points in the second half were second-chance points. We knew we had to eliminate that if we wanted to win the game, and we didn’t. So it didn’t go our way because we didn’t rebound.

Q: Obviously there’s just a lot of emotions right now in the locker room. What made this team that close to warrant emotions now?

Galloway: I just think everyone’s passion and will to win. I think everyone came together. You look back on the three-game losing streak we had in January, and a lot of people were counting us out, saying we couldn’t come back together as a team and we fought. We fought after that and kept fighting and kept going. I think we really kind of came together as a good team, and obviously it sucks that Xavier had to go down because he’s a huge part of our team and we needed him in the worst way. But I just think the way we rallied and got Race back and the way we fought the whole season was huge for us.

Q: Kent State had 16 offensive rebounds and obviously 20 tonight from Miami. Is there anything you can point to as to why that suddenly became a problem for you guys?

Galloway: I’ll have to watch the film. I can’t really say off the top of my head, but obviously just boxing out and the little things, everyone collectively rebounding the ball. It’s not just one guy. It’s all five gang rebounding, and we didn’t do that. So it’s not on one guy, it’s all five going to crash and we came up short on that end.

Q: Trey, I know everybody is hurting tonight, but how do you feel about Trayce and all that he’s meant to you for the last three years and having it end this way for him?

Galloway: It hurts because of all the things that he’s done. Not just him, but Miller, Race and Chilly and Shipp, even our walk-ons. Just the guy that they’ve put so much into this, it hurts us because we want to keep going for them because they’re our seniors and they’ve fought so hard for us and we’re battling together every day in practice, stuff that goes unseen. It just hurts that we can’t have the outcome that we want.

Q: Early on, Trey, it was their guards that were hurting you guys. What was making it difficult to get that limited?

Galloway: We knew that they’re good guards, and they came out shooting the ball well. They get out to an 8-0 lead or something like that, and we knew once we got them under control we were right back in the game, and so it’s not like they kept killing us. We got them under control and we tied it up and took the lead even. So I think just, like I said I’d have to go back and watch the film, but we could have been better on the defensive end.
