Brendan Sorsby Named Indiana Football Starting Quarterback

Indiana's starting quarterback for the 2023 season has finally been revealed, as Brendan Sorsby has beaten out Tayven Jackson for the job in Bloomington.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — After an offseason and fall camp full of secrecy and drama, Brendan Sorsby has officially won the starting quarterback job for coach Tom Allen and the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Lake Dallas, Texas, product came out to a raucous Memorial Stadium crowd on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington. It's a surprising turn of events with Sorsby beating out Tayven Jackson, who came to IU with the status of a former four-star recruit. The Tennessee transfer is also the younger brother of Trayce Jackson-Davis, and that alone endears him to many Hoosier fans.

Saturday's game against Ohio State is the first meaningful play Sorsby has seen at the college level. During the 2022 season, the redshirt freshman saw snaps against Penn State, but little else. In that game against the Nittany Lions, Sorsby threw three passes: one was completed, one fell harmlessly to the turf and one resulted in an interception.

Sorsby committed to Indiana in 2022 soon after Allen hired Walt Bell as offensive coordinator. The Texas high school product chose Indiana over Army, Navy, Fordham and Delaware.

This all means that Jackson is the second string quarterback for Indiana, backing up his fellow redshirt freshman gunslinger.

Allen said during his Wednesday radio show that Broc Lowry is the third string quarterback entering the 2023 season. This all could be temporary, however, as the team anticipates the return of Dexter Williams II.

Williams II gave Indiana a spark late in the 2022 season, and started against Michigan State and Purdue before suffering a devastating non-contact knee injury.

However, the redshirt junior has been recovering better than Allen and the coaching staff expected, and has had a midseason return rumored throughout fall camp.

But for now, Brendan Sorsby is QB1 in Bloomington.
