Indiana Among Finalists For Washington Transfer Koren Johnson

Washington guard Koren Johnson will reportedly decide between Florida, Oregon, Indiana, UCLA and Washington after entering the transfer portal.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana made the final five for Washington transfer Koren Johnson.

Johnson will decide between Florida, Oregon, Indiana, UCLA and a possible return to Washington, as first reported by On3's Joe Tipton.

Johnson is a 6-foot-2 guard with two years of eligibilty. As a sophomore in 2023-24, he was named Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year for the 17-15 Huskies. Washington fired coach Mike Hopkins after the season and replaced him with Danny Sprinkle, who won the Mountain West regular season title with Utah State and reached the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 as a No. 8 seed.

This past season, Johnson averaged 11.1 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Playing 24.2 minutes per game with five starts and 26 appearances off the bench, he shot 44.1% from the field, 37.3% from 3-point range and 72.2% at the free throw line. He made 41-of-110 3-point attempts, good for 1.3 makes per game.

Johnson had a particularly strong end to his sophomore season, scoring at least 16 points in seven of his last eight games. That stretch included a 30-point performance against Stanford, when he made a career-high 6-of-10 3-point attempts.

As a freshman in 2022-23, Johnson played 19.4 minutes per game in 29 contests off the bench. He averaged 6.8 points per game and shot 32.1% from the 3-point line,

Johnson joined Washington as a four-star recruit, ranked No. 132 in the nation by the 247 Sports Composite. He attended Garfield High School in Seattle, Wash., where he won the 2020 Class 3A State Championship under coach Brandon Roy, a former NBA and Washington guard. Johnson was the top-ranked recruit in Washington in the class of 2022.

Indiana picked up a commitment from Bryson Tucker on Thursday, a five-star wing in the class of 2024, but coach Mike Woodson still has six open scholarships to fill heading into the 2024-25 season. Indiana lost Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker to graduation, while CJ Gunn, Kaleb Banks and Payton Sparks entered the transfer portal and Kel'el Ware declared for the 2024 NBA Draft.
