Evan Jacobson has steadily built a bond with Iowa Football. The in-state high school sophomore attended a game at Kinnick Stadium in the fall, returned for a bowl practice, stopped back for a junior day in February and was back in town Thursday for spring practice.

We spoke to the Waukee (IA) tight end after his junior-day visit. He told us then that his parents, Bill and Katie Jacobson, attended the University of Iowa. His older brother, Michael Jacobson, played basketball at Iowa State from '17-'20 after transferring from Nebraska.

Evan's frequent Hawkeye visits have provided excellent insight into the program. Thursday's experience was another chance to learn.

"I really enjoyed being able to see a practice and what goes in a practice from all the individual drills to team work," Jacobson told HN. "I also liked being able to talk with coach (Jay) Niemann, coach (Abdul) Hodge and coach (Kirk) Ferentz some more and build our relationships."

The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder is athletic, also standing out in basketball. While he has position flexibility in football, Iowa sees him as a tight end.

"They really like my versatility, toughness and just passion for the game; and then my size," Evan said.

As a sophomore, Jacobson caught six passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns. He showed during his sophomore highlights the ability to block and run routes in-line. He sometimes splits out into the slot, too.

Iowa State offered Jacobson his first scholarship when he visited Ames late last month. He's scheduled another Cyclone stop on April 11 along with trips to Wisconsin (April 18) and Nebraska (April 25).

"I visited Iowa (Thursday) just to see a spring-ball practice and see what a day looks like there as well as to be able to get back on campus and talk with the coaching staff," he said.

With two more years of high school to go, Jacobson can take his time, getting to better know schools, programs and staffs. He likes the Hawkeyes.

"After the visit, I feel very comfortable with the staff and like what they have going on there. As of right now, we don’t have a set date to get back, but I just want to continue and build my relationship with the coaches," he said.

"I’m excited to see how the offense will look with the new offensive coordinator (Tim Lester)."

Jacobson still is thinking about a college major. Again, he has time.

"Right now, I have not decided but am very interested in Business and Law," he said.
