Growing up in the state, Reece Vander Zee is well aware of Iowa Football. Since receiving a Hawkeye offer on March 22, the senior receiver is getting to know the program even better these days.

The latest bonding experience came this weekend when Vander Zee officially visited. The Central Lyon (IA) multi-sport standout took part in Iowa's biggest recruiting weekend of the year. Verbal commitments in the 2024 Class along with top targets descended upon campus.

Vander Zee recently told HN that he likely would be choosing between the Hawkeyes and Iowa State, where he officially visited earlier this month. He also reported offers from Nebraska, Air Force, Yale and others.

"I definitely feel better about the Hawkeyes after the visit," he said. "It was great."

Vander Zee (6-5, 190) visited Iowa in the past. He got a much more thorough look at the school and program during the weekend.

"I really liked how professional everyone was and how down to earth and honest the staff and players were. I also liked hanging out with the (current) players and getting to know them as well," he said.

Junior receiver Jack Johnson played host to Vander Zee on Friday. After that, former Central Lyon teammate and Iowa true freshman, Zach Lutmer, took over.

"I really liked getting to catch up with Zach. Jack was also great. I really liked him," Vander Zee said.

Overall, Vander Zee felt at home.

"I really liked the vibe of the town. And the players were really welcoming to me," he said.

Vander Zee said recently that he'd like to commit to a college by the end of the summer. He's decided to major in Business.

Vander Zee teamed up with Lutmer and others in helping Central Lyon win state championships in football and basketball last school year. In football, Vander Zee caught 32 passes for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns during '22 in earning first-team all-state honors from the IPSWA. That organization tabbed him as a second-team all-state pick in basketball, where he averaged 17.8 points and 6.7 rebounds.

Vander Zee shows excellent body control and ability to catch the ball over defensive backs during his junior highlights. He also impresses on defense, where he intercepted four passes last fall.

On3 and 247Sports see Vander Zee as a three-star prospect. The latter ranks him as the No. 8 in-state prospect overall, while the former puts him ninth.
