Class of 2024 offensive lineman William Stobbe sits in a good place within his recruiting process. The Waukee (IA) High standout holds scholarship offers from smaller schools and is working towards adding opportunities from bigger programs.

Stobbe (6-4, 270) camped at Iowa and Iowa State this month. He's scheduled stops at Nebraska (June 16), North Dakota State (June 23) and Kansas State (June 25).

The Hawkeye workout paid off. The in-state program offered him a preferred walk-on spot June 8.

"I’m excited for the opportunity that (OL) coach (George) Barnett and coach (Jay) Niemann extended to me to further develop and compete for a scholarship down the road," Stobbe told HN. "Iowa football produces some of the best offensive linemen in the country, and to be coached by them would be a special experience."

Stobbe reports offers from Illinois State, Wayne State, Minnesota State, Minnesota-Duluth, Pittsburgh State, Bemidji State, Missouri Western State, Upper Iowa and Sioux Falls.

"I was excited to receive the call from coach Niemann (about the Iowa PWO offer). At this point in my recruitment, I’m open to all offers to see which program and university would be a best fit for me athletically and academically," Stobbe said.

The IPSWA named Stobbe second-team all-state in Class 5A after last season. He thrived on the offensive side of the ball and produced 3.0 tackles for loss on defense.

Stobbe showed the Hawkeye staff his talents on June 3. It wasn't the first time it's worked with him.

"I’ve been going to Iowa’s camp for the past three years, and it’s always been one of my favorites. I’ve always been impressed with the coaching and how they relate to the athletes. Coach Barnett and coach (Kelvin) Bell have always been approachable and eager to address questions that I had about proper technique," he said.

As of now, Stobbe would like to wrap up his recruitment early next month. That could change depending on the rest of his camps and/or other programs coming forward.

Academics will be a big part of his decision. He reports a 3.924 GPA and was recognized for achievements in April.

"I’m interested in a Kinesiology/Exercise Science degree. That would prepare me for a graduate Physical Therapy program," he said.
