It's time to check in on how next year's recruiting class is shaping up for the Kansas Jayhawks, and whether you should start worrying yet.

We just finished looking at the 2022 recruiting class on the countdown, with separate looks at the high school and community college recruits first and then a review of the transfers committed to Kansas so far.

But because any successful program can't afford to be complacent when it comes to looking to the future, it's usually pretty informative to look at which players are committed to the Jayhawks for the next season.

Here's the full list of players committed to the Jayhawks from the 2023 class:

No, your screen isn't broken. Kansas does not currently have any players committed for the 2023 class.

Normally, I'd be worried about what this means for the Jayhawks. After all, David Beaty had one player in his final recruiting class at this point in the year, with that player decommitting after Beaty was fired. Les Miles was able to put together a decently rated recruiting class in about a month.

That's not to say that Kansas fans shouldn't be worried. But Lance Leipold and staff are in on a number of recruits at positions of need who have not made decisions to this point. I expect that many of those recruits are waiting to see how the Jayhawks are able to build on the positive momentum at the end of year 1 before committing to play for Kansas next season.

And as we saw in yesterday's countdown entry, it is possible in the current environment to build a collection of highly talented additions by picking up players that are looking for a change of scenery from their last stop. Thanks to the changes in the transfer rules, many of those transfers are coming to Kansas with 3 or more years of eligibility, so it's not like they are a quick fix only that will get the Jayhawks back in the scholarship situation that they struggled with since the Charlie Weis days.

All of this is to say that while it isn't ideal that the Jayhawks have no commitments yet for the 2023 class, it's important to remember the youth of this team and the ability to fill holes through the transfer portal. While the story may sound the same, the situation is much less dire this season.
