LIVE Score Updates: Kansas Jayhawks at Kansas State Wildcats

In this story:
The Kansas Jayhawks take on the Kansas State Wildcats to close out the season, and the only question on everyone's mind is if they can break the streak.
I'll be giving updates live from the stadium throughout the game here, so make sure you check back frequently. You can also follow live updates on the Rock Chalk Podcast and Blue Wings Rising Twitter accounts, and join the conversation in our Discord server.
10:09pm: Vaughn breaks another 4 tackles en route to a huge gain. Getting close to the end on this one.
10:06pm: Need a stop here. Missed hold on a huge run for KSU doesn't help.
10:03pm: Another 3 and out. Kansas punts. They either really trust the defense or they are giving up. But at least the blocker helped Kansas twice:
K-State dude committed the double foul of blocking in the back and blocking dude into the punt returner to give him the tackle he probably wouldn't have gotten without help, haha.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 27, 2022
9:57pm: Kansas State was going for it, but they jumped and the false start changed it to a field goal instead.
Kansas still down just two scores, 40-27.
Well, decision was made for them I guess. KU should be thrilled.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) November 27, 2022
9:54pm: Kansas holds on third and goal at the 4, but Sampson is injured. Not sure yet if KSU is going for it or is going to kick it.
9:51pm: Didn't take long for Kansas State to get back in scoring position. A 69 yard kickoff return sets Kansas State up deep in Kansas territory, and Vaughn gets two quick runs to set up first and goal.
9:45pm: Kansas gets the touchdown, but Daniels is shaken up on the play, landing on his right shoulder. He sprints off the field but the 2-point conversion is no good. Kansas down 10 with 13:39 left in the game.
Tough drop by Fairchild on the 2-point try. The guy has made so many tough catches this season, but that one will probably eat at him for a while. K-State leads #KUfball 37-27 early 4th....
— Matt Tait (@mctait) November 27, 2022
9:43pm: We almost saw some ridiculous trickery for a touchdown with Bean getting a handoff and throwing to Grimm and then Jared Casey almost getting a stretching catch for a touchdown.
9:36pm: Neal went down with an injury. After the timeout, Kansas got a first down to end the 3rd quarter.
9:27pm: BIG conversion on 4th down for Kansas there. Jalon Daniels is fired up and Kansas is driving.
Kansas converts, again, on a very critical drive here. Under two minutes remain in the 3Q. KU is up to the KSU34. #kufball
— Conner Becker (@ctbecker) November 27, 2022
9:21pm: It took them a bit longer this time, but the same result for Kansas, as Kansas State gets into the endzone on a pitch out to Vaughn on 4th and goal from the 1.
Some are ready to throw in the towel (maybe rightly so)
And that's ballgame. It would take some insane turn of events for Kansas to catch up. It would also require a competent defense
— RCT (@rockchalktalk) November 27, 2022
Also, this:
Not going to win games when you fumble twice and go three and out 3 times in a row when your defense gets stops. #kufball
— JayhawkFocus (@JayhawkFocus) November 27, 2022
9:16pm: Call stood, and Kansas State is marching right down the field.
9:12pm: Torry Locklin is getting a lot of run in this game, and he fumbles the ball on the carry. Kansas State ball pending an official review.
Mistakes, man.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 27, 2022
9:06pm: Kansas State did nothing either after a third down incompletion stands on review. Touchback on the punt and we are right back where we started.
Play stands.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) November 27, 2022
Punt goes into the endzone.
Just pretend like the last 2:23 didn't happen...
9:00pm: First drive of the half is a 3-and-out after they inexplicably pick up a PI flag.
8:36pm: Kansas had multiple chances, but couldn't get anything going on their final drives of the half.
Kansas goes into halftime down 9.
8:33pm: TURNOVER!! Kansas gets the ball back on the strip sack!
that is JUST what the doctor ordered
— Tom (@TJFsports) November 27, 2022
8:31pm: Jayhawks weren't able to get anything going on that drive. Ball back to Kansas State with just under 2 to go.
8:25pm: Kansas pressure finally gets to the quarterback, as Craig Young picks up a sack and forces a fumble, but Kansas State falls on it. Jayhawks get the ball back.
Oof. Strip sack and KU can't fall on it. Still, it's a stop.
— KU Live Tweets/News (Fan Account) (@kutweetsandnews) November 27, 2022
It's an amazing 72 yard punt and KU will start at their own 5.
8:20pm: Kansas might have gotten fortunate with a PI call, and it's basically just because the K-State player didn't turn around. Contact looked about even.
Devin Neal punches it in for his second rushing touchdown
#KUfball with another solid TD drive. Makes those free points they surrendered sting all the more. KU’s very much in this game & may be in control without those gaffes.
— Matt Tait (@mctait) November 27, 2022
Lonnnnng way to go still…
8:15pm: Jared Casey gets his first catch, which of course means you know what the broadcast has to talk about
No one in the country has had their NIL deal talked about more than Jared Casey and Applebee’s
— AB (@anthonybax12) November 27, 2022
8:13pm: Huge pass by Daniels to Luke Grimm to get the first down. Kansas is driving again.
Luke Grimm with an outstanding catch. Stays inbounds for a few more yards and places Kansas up to the KSU42. #kufball
— Conner Becker (@ctbecker) November 27, 2022
8:10pm: Phillip Brooks gets the touchdown reception and Kansas is back down by 16 points.
8:09pm: Reactions are not too surprising:
Can’t help but laugh honestly. That 3rd & 12 play is a joke
— Braiden Turner (@bturner23) November 27, 2022
Gotta play defense on 3rd down man
— Jayhawk Country (@Jayhawks_B12C) November 27, 2022
3rd and 10
— R Boyd (@RRB4KU) November 27, 2022
3rd and 11
3rd and 12
All converted. Embarrassing
8:08pm: Great work by the Kansas defense to get it to 3rd and long again, but Vaughn breaks a couple tackles and gets a HUGE run.
And what do you know Vaughn breaks two tackles and flips the field. #KUfball has been plain awful on third and long today. https://t.co/WBFTcgJ4M4
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) November 27, 2022
8:02pm: And Kansas gets the score. Devin Neal powers through and picks up the touchdown.
Devin Neal was the No. 1 kid in Kansas for a reason. But really nice job on the G/T pull by the Jayhawks.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 27, 2022
7:59pm: Not to be outdone, Devin Neal snags a ball out of the air and gets the first down.
Play looked broken, but Devin Neal snatches the ball out of the air and gets the first down.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) November 27, 2022
7:56pm: Daniels has his first big play with his legs, scrambling out of pressure and taking off down the sideline for 35 yards.
7:50pm: Devin Neal is starting to get some touches, but Kansas needs to keep this one moving. We hit the end of the first quarter and Kansas trails 23-7.
7:48pm: Fair catch by Trevor Wilson to get Kansas started on the 25.
Handoff to Knowles on an end-around and he walks in untouched.
— JayhawkSlant (@JayhawkSlant) November 27, 2022
KSU dominating this game. This is a crucial drive coming. Jayhawks have to answer or this could get nasty. #kufball
7:46pm: Kansas State converted multiple times on 3rd and long, ending the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run by Malik Knowles. Kansas State is up 23-7 with 1:37 in the first quarter.
7:42pm: Deuce Vaughn gets his first big play of the game on a 32-yard rush. But Will Howard is having some issues with his throws right now.
7:37pm: Kansas was all kinds of discombobulated on that drive. Brought it out of the end zone on the kickoff, then penalties and bad throws ending in a holding in the end zone for a safety.
Wild the amount of mistakes Kansas is making
— Derek Johnson (@DJohnsonRadio) November 27, 2022
7:28pm: Busted coverages, 3rd down conversions on long passes, Easy penalties. All things Kansas can't afford tonight. All things that happened on that last drive. Kansas State takes the lead on a 42 yard pass to Sammy Wheeler.
Giving up that 3rd & 11 conversion was huge for that drive...#KUfball
— Dillon Davis (@dillondavis3) November 27, 2022
7:23pm: Already getting chippy, as Young knocked down a pass in the flat and then there was a brief scuffle.
7:19pm: Everything went right for Kansas on the offensive drive, as a fumbled snap ended in a first down thanks to a Kansas State facemask penalty. Then Torry Locklin benefits from the misdirection and gets into the end zone.
Wow. That's a big-time run from Torry Locklin. Led Rockdale (Texas) to a state title as a dual-threat QB who threw for 2,536 yards and 27 TDs and rushed for 2,434 and 30 touchdowns as a senior.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 27, 2022
7:15pm: Jalon Daniels starts and has been fairly efficient to start. The Jayhawks got the first first down of the game.
7:10pm: An awful start for the special teams. Kansas gets the stop on a three and out defensively, but OJ Burroughs slips trying to field the punt and turns it over. Kansas State punches it in on the next play from the 5.
7:02pm: Kansas wins the coin flip and defers to the second half. Some interesting news being reported about the placekicking situation for the Jayhawks:
No sign of #KUfball kicker Jacob Borcila during warmups. I'm told he did not make the trip to Manhattan for tonight's game.
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) November 27, 2022
Redshirt freshman Owen Piepergerdes is expected to take on the PK duties for the game. He finished the Texas game as KU's placekicker.
