It was an absolute whirlwind getting here, but Kentucky has found its guy for the 15th and final roster spot. On Saturday, Missouri transfer Mark Mitchell announced his commitment to Kentucky.

After a Colorado judge ruled class of 2022 athletes eligible for a fifth-year, provided they entered the portal back in April, Mitchell took to court to try and fight for his eligibility in a Louisville courtroom. He was ruled eligible on Friday, before then going into decision mode. It didn’t take him long to pick the Wildcats, who were seen as heavy favorites from the start.

Mitchell was expected to be pursued by Mark Pope and Kentucky if he were ruled eligible and it looks like things worked out after Jaxon Kohler went elsewhere to BYU. The 6-9 forward not only gives Kentucky a top five transfer, but he will provide the physicality they need and would have really struggled going up against without him. Last season, Mitchell averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for Missouri, including back-to-back 32-point performances to close out the regular season.

This wasn’t easy for Kentucky, or Mitchell, to get done. With the ever changing landscape and rules right now, it’s hard to navigate. But, they got it done and now Mitchell provides immediate impact in the physicality area, which Mark Pope recently said would be a weak point of his team. Before adding Mitchell, that is.

“We have some length, and I think we have some togetherness that’s going to translate to toughness for us. But that’s going to be a place where we’re going to be challenged in terms of just the brute strength and physicality. I think our guys are working really hard to grow in that space.”

Kentucky has found the perfect piece to not only help them in that area, but provide some potential star power as a top transfer
