LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite it being the middle of the offseason, it has been a surprisingly eventful last couple months for the Louisville men's basketball program.

Back in mid-August, the Cardinals lost their top incoming freshman, Trentyn Flowers, to an overseas professional opportunity in Australia. Conversely, the program did receive some good news last week, as fellow incoming freshman Ty-Laur Johnson was officially ruled eligible by the NCAA.

"This is college basketball, man," head coach Kenny Payne said. "It's the new age of what we're dealing with: being prepared for the unpredictable."

Fortunately, we'll soon have actual basketball to discuss and break down The Cardinals held their first practice of the preseason earlier this, and the start of year two of the Kenny Payne - which is slated for Nov. 6 at the KFC Yum! Center against UMBC - is just under a month away.

But later this week, we'll get our first look at the 2023-24 iteration of the Cardinals. Louisville's annual Red and White Scrimmage will tip-off is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m. EST.

On Monday ahead of the scrimmage, Payne took time to meet with the media and give an update on the team for the first time since late July. He discussed the how they could divide the teams in the scrimmage, the impact of Skyy Clark, how the returners have progressed, his thoughts on the Trentyn Flowers situation, what he defines as success for this season, and more.
