LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program's midsummer recruiting momentum in the Class of 2024 continues to press onwards.

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic defensive lineman Xavier Porter announced Friday that he has given his verbal pledge to the Cardinals. He chose Louisville over finalists Penn State and Kansas, while also holding offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and others.

Louisville has now landed three prospects in the 2024 cycle over the last five days. Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake cornerback Rae'mon Mosby pulled the trigger on the Fourth of July, while Spanish Fort (Ala.) HS defensive end Cole McConathy did so on Thursday.

Porter was a long time target of the previous staff at Louisville, originally being offered by the Cardinals back in March of 2022. The mutual interest remained after Jeff Brohm took over as the head coach last December, especially with the retention of assistant coach Mark Ivey, and Porter eventually made his way for an official visit during the Cardinals' big recruiting weekend to kick off the month of June.

The 6-foot-2, 280-pound lineman, who plays both at tackle and edge rusher, ranks as high as the No. 23 defensive end in the 2024 cycle and the No. 56 prospect in the talent-rich state of Florida according to Rivals. He comes in as the No. 658 prospect in the class by the 247Sports Composite.

Porter had a productive junior season for Tampa Catholic, collecting 50 tackles and two sacks in 11 games. He helped the Crusaders go 9-2 on the 2022 season, including a berth in the Florida Class 2M regional semifinals. He also participates in the shot put and discus in track & field.

He marks the 14th scholarship commitment for Louisville in the Class of 2024, with two preferred walk-ons also in the fold.
