Second Half:

Even with a comfortable lead, the Canes are still struggling the zone. However they are still finding ways to make plays with offensive rebounding. The Canes have a great lead and are in full control. It is a good win for Miami and they snap a two game losing streak. Miami 85, Syracuse 76

Here goes Miami. Shelton Henderson is starting to take over, showing some of his guard ability as well. Miami up 13, nearing the finish line. Henderson has been responsible for the last seven points scored for the Canes. Miami 69, Syracuse 56

The Hurricanes are starting to separate from the Orange. They are starting to generate turnovers on other teams, and it is working in their offensive plan to get out in transition. Miami 57, Syracuse 52

First Half:

The Hurricanes have started to pick up the pace to avoid the zone, and it is working. The canes continue to get to the free-throw line and get out on the break. It was also the Canes' first real transition pull-up three all season from Donaldson. They are on a 14-5 run to extend the lead. Miami 41, Syracuse 32

The Hurricanes are struggling not turn the ball over. Malik Reneau has coughed it up eight times, and the first-half trend of the Canes turning the ball over continues. Miami 29, Syracuse 27

The Hurricanes are as aggressive as ever. It was clear that Lucas's message had gotten through to most of these players. Donaldson comes off the bench and instantly sparks the Canes on the offensive side of the ball. Miami 20, Syracuse 10

Timeout Syracuse 16:33: The Hurricanes are off to a quick start with Dante Allen being inserted into the starting lineup. A quick 9-0 run for the Canes. Miami 9, Syracuse 0

The Miami Hurricanes (15-3, 4-2 ACC) are fourth in the ACC, even with a two-game losing streak. Head coach Jai Lucas looks to break his first serious funk of the year, hoping those "gunshy" performances over the last two games end against an opportunistic Syracuse (12-7, 3-3 ACC).

The Hurricanes are starting to see some depth issues without Marcus Allen for the rest of the season. They need some perimeter shooting, and all of it is on the bench. It just depends on when the Canes need them to hit shots, and Lucas knows this is a key issue.

"With Dante and then Timo and Noam, you know those guys we put they're floor spacers so they got to shoot some of these threes that they're getting," Lucas said. "I thought they turned some down. I thought Tre turned down a bunch in the second half when they were going under the ball screens and stuff, and that's what I waskind of saying. We just felt like we started second-guessing ourselves, and it gave them opportunities within the game to kind of stay there but also pull away cause then most of the second half we were kind of playing from behind a little bit."

At least the Hurricanes are seeing some progression in their star freshman, Shelton Henderson. Over his last three games, he is averaging 18 points per game and is not getting into foul trouble. This is the best outlook for him as he continues to improve and grow into the guy for Miami.
