Canes Football Preseason Questions: Who Will Be The Top Linebacker?

In this story:

Continuing on with the series of evaluating Miami Hurricanes football ahead of their season opener against Miami (OH), the linebacker unit will be one to keep an eye out on throughout the season.

Miami's best off-ball linebacker last season for Corey Flagg Jr., who led linebackers with 56 total tackles and 2.5 sacks last season.

Despite Flagg's production, there remains room for growth in the linebacker room. Therefore, Miami went out and made an addition in the transfer portal with Fransisco Mauigoa from Washington State.

As well as some other returners to the squad, Miami has a few linebackers that have a chance to be the leading tacklers and producer by the end of the season. The results from our poll is as follows:

With an overwhelming victory, Mauigoa takes 72.6% of the votes from the public to be the top tackler for the linebacker unit this coming season.

However, it is important to note that most of the remaining votes did go to Wesley Bissainthe, who many fans see taking a jump in year two as a Hurricane.

Regardless, it makes sense the Mauigoa took the victory, as he has the size and production to slot in and make an instant impact.

Additionally, he will be able to play alongside his younger brother Francis Mauigoa, who could very well start on the offensive line in his true freshman year coming out of IMG Academy.

If Mauigoa is able to continue his production over from the PAC-12, Miami's defense could very well become the engine that drives them and even put them in position to contend for an ACC title.
