Thinking about the 1980s, 1990s, and even early-to-mid 2000s, Miami and Florida State took on all comers. They were college football giants.

In 2023, there’s quite a bit of optimism in Tallahassee, and some building momentum in Coral Gables as well, for each program to return to glory. While Mario Cristobal and Mike Norvell will be leading their teams, there are also many moving parts to this story.

With that in mind, the following podcast discusses key elements for each team’s success in 2023, 2024 and beyond. Which team executes these principals will be the one that finds itself in the College Football Playoff sooner than the archrival.

Here are a few of the key talking points in the podcast:

***Quarterback play should be really good for the Canes and Noles in 2023. It’s Tyler Van Dyke and Jordan Travis, why wouldn’t it be? After those two leave (probably each after this next season), however, how quickly does each team transition? Teams that win big also do so after losing talented signal callers.

***Talking key positions for each team. Defensive tackle and cornerback will be talking points, as well as some strong opinions on the offensive line play at each of Miami and FSU.

***What has been holding each program back? For one, mental errors in clutch situations. Both teams have been self-destructive at times, albeit in different ways. That’s explained further in the podcast, and it’s a category each school needs to do a much better job moving forward.

***Big games. Both teams, point blank, must be better on a consistent basis. That needs to start now.

***Talking Transfer Portal and how each university must back away from it, at least a little bit, to make long-term gains. It’s a complex and unique situation, but each school has a clear path to making that happen.

***Special players change games. There are three recruits from FSU and Miami that will be stars, and are also inside the following podcast:
