In this story:

A big reason why the Miami Hurricanes defensive line has functioned so well despite injuries has been the play of true freshman Rueben Bain

He's played 119 snaps over the first four games and has produced an excellent Pro Football Focus grade of 84.1.

How good is that? It's good enough to be the top graded true freshman defensive lineman in America.

Not only that, but so far, Bain has earned a higher grade than Florida State standout Jared Verse. Verse is projected as a consensus first round NFL Draft pick in 2024.

Nobody is saying Bain is a better overall player than Verse, at least not yet, but these grades and stats should illustrate what a tremendous start Bain is off to.

Bain's PFF rating is the highest of any Miami Hurricanes defensive player with a minimum of 100 snaps.

I spoke about Bain's early season success on my Locked On Canes podcast.

The former Miami Central HS standout was one of the most decorated high school football players in South Florida history. Bain won four state championships while compiling 58 sacks and 150 tackles. He was awarded the Nat Moore Trophy after his senior season, given to the most outstanding high school player in Miami-Dade and Broward County.
