Miami Shakes Up Coaching Staff, Promotes Cody Woodiel To Tight Ends Coach

With their 2023 Spring Game set for April 14 at DRV PNK Stadium, head coach Mario Cristobal decided he still wanted to make some moves in the coaching department.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Cody Woodiel is being promoted to tight ends coach and former tight ends coach Stephen Field will transition into a recruiting role.

For Woodiel, he served this past season as a Senior Quality Control Analyst for Miami. He came to Miami from Oregon with Coach Cristobal, where he also served as an analyst there. Woodiel will now have his first opportunity as a positions coach at the FBS level, leading a group that has been historically strong for Miami.

Regarding Field, he was the sole position coach that was retained when Miami had their overhaul following the firing of former head coach Manny Diaz in 2022. Field played a crucial role in the development of players such as Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory, both NFL tight ends (assuming Mallory's name is called this April).

In Fields new role, he will transition to a recruiting role where his focus will now be on just bringing in those top talents. Given his previous tight end class saw him land the likes of No. 4 TE prospect Riley Williams and highly-coveted three-star Jackson Carver, Miami remains in good hands.

As for now, Woodiel will look to develop the young core at tight end in a key season for Miami coming up.
