Losing this player would be a tough pill to swallow

For the Miami Hurricanes, the Transfer Portal gives and takes away.

According to 247's Gaby Urrutia, Miami running back Henry Parrish, Jr. will enter the Transfer Portal. If Parrish's transfer comes to fruition, it's a tough loss for Miami's running back room.

According to CFB Stats, here are Parrish's 2023 rushing statistics: 100 attempts, 625 yards, 6.3 average, and 6 touchdowns. The 5-foot-10 and 190-pound running back would also leave a running back room in transition.

Rising sophomore Mark Fletcher, Jr. is healing from a Lisfranc injury, which is quite complicated. Here's the definition from Orthoinfo:

"Lisfranc (midfoot) injuries result if bones in the midfoot are broken or ligaments that support the midfoot are torn. The severity of a Lisfranc injury can vary widely — from a simple injury involving one midfoot joint to a complex injury involving many midfoot joints and broken bones."

It's no guarantee that Fletcher is full-go for fall camp or even the first Miami game at Florida on Aug. 31. Further, the injury often leads to another injury. It could be a break or similar. Depending on the exact issue Fletcher has now, his Lisfranc injury can be one of the more complex injuries football players try to return from.

While on the topic of injuries, will TreVonte' Citizen be ready for a serious workload this next fall? He's built much like Fletcher. The Miami athletics page has him listed at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds. Citizen is, however, coming off two years of lower body injuries.

Assuming Parrish leaves, another Cane could see his carries go up. That would be former Nebraska running back Ajay Allen. He's a quick shifty runner with good open-field speed. Allen's 2023 numbers include 70 carries, 361 yards, a 5.2 average, and 5 touchdowns.

Finally, the Canes possess three more young running backs with ample talent which could offset the loss of any combination of Parrish, Fletcher, and Citizen. One or more of Chris Johnson, Jr., Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, and Jordan Lyle have a chance to make an immediate impact.
