Miami Commitment Profile: Linebacker Vincent Shavers
Vincent Shavers became the eighth verbal commitment for Miami’s 2024 recruiting class.

Size: 6-foot, 205 pounds
Position: Linebacker
High School: Miami (Fla.) Central
Frame
He’s not going to grow into some 240-pound thumper in the middle. Instead, expect Shavers to be a fast linebacker that ends up some place around 220 or perhaps 225 pounds.
Athleticism
The Central linebacker has excellent first-step quickness; he often utilized this skill when blitzing off the edge to sack the quarterback. Shavers also showcased a nimbleness when dodging offensive linemen when working through the middle of the scrum to find the ball carrier, i.e. changing his path several times within a short distance.
Power has also been a part of Shavers’ repertoire, and there’s still plenty of room to add more size. As he gains more mass, his ability to fend off larger offensive players will improve because he will be able to combat them more sheer force.
Skill Level
He’s been best when playing downhill. Shavers has the ability to play in space – zone or man – but will need to continue to learn the nuances of a much more mentally challenging game at the college level.
He has shown the propensity to find the football and create turnovers. That’s as good a skill as there can be for any defensive player.
Position Flexibility
He’s still learning while he grows, mentally and physically. Again, Shavers should not be considered a finished product. That also means Shavers could play weak side linebacker or potentially be a hybrid at the Power 5 level. Perhaps a little of both.
Additionally, he’s a lock to be a special teams player, kickoffs, punt and punt return, etc.
Overall, Mario Cristobal and Miami landed a linebacker that can play multiple roles on defense and special teams. Being that he’s from powerhouse Miami Central also means Shavers will be battle tested by the time he enrolls in Coral Gables.
