The Miami Hurricanes want defenders with length and athleticism, but also smart players. Mario Cristobal and his staff did well with all three of those categories with this next National Signing Day signee.

Dylan Day

Size: 6-feet, 170 pounds

Position: Safety/Nickel

High School: Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab

Recruitment: This is a player that LSU did not go after and will likely regret it. Day's playmaking skills led Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry to go after him early. Guidry is a Louisiana native and did not hesitate to offer Day. The Bayou State recruit made his announcement for Miami on April 16, 2023.

Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Tulane, Arizona State, Baylor, and Marshall – the school Guidry coached at before Miami – are among Day's other offers.

Strengths: Day finds the football, over and over, and does so with excellent speed. His timing to meet the football just prior to the intended target snagging it from the air is uncanny. Day is a natural at being an aggressor near the line of scrimmage via the screen game or stuffing the run.

Areas to Improve: Without question, Day needs to add strength to his upper body. He's a big hitter but adding muscle mass will help him bring down opposing players and aid him with staying healthy. One other related point.

Despite playing several roles for Southern Lab, prioritizing either safety or nickel will help him earn playing time faster for the Hurricanes.

From the 2024 Miami Commitments and Evaluations page, here’s what AllHurricanes states about Day:

He could end up at nickel, safety, or even cornerback. He's far from filled out, but Day's natural skills and aggressive playing style will lead him to the defensive side of the football. When Day does come up with the football via an interception, he has also shown the ability to take off and be a threat to score.

Day will be a unique player that Miami's defensive coaching staff can use in a multitude of ways to improve the defense.
