The Miami Hurricanes are looking for long and athletic cornerbacks. Mario Cristobal and his staff are signing a high-upside cornerback with this next signee.

Romanas Frederique

Size: 6-feet, 170 pounds

Position: Cornerback

High School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Saint Thomas Aquinas

Recruitment: The now former STA Raider became a Hurricanes commitment on June 30, 2023. Beyond Miami, Florida State and West Virginia would be the two teams he probably considered the most. In fact, Frederique flipped from WVU to UM.

Strengths: Playing for Deerfield Beach High School before STA, Frederique's time at wide receiver will help him learn the cornerback position faster. He possesses the length that's needed to go against twitchy wide receivers. Frederique could end up at cornerback or nickel; perhaps both.

Areas to Improve: Needs to add muscle to take on the screen game that's prevalent within the modern college football world and handle his run-game assignments. As a player that's transitioning to cornerback, continuing to expand on his defensive back techniques is the other primary area to advance.

Frederique’s upside as a cornerback will be the key component as a member of the Hurricanes. Miami needed more length and speed at the field and boundary cornerback positions. Frederique could eventually play either as he fills out his wiry frame. Look for him to end up at over 185 pounds before he leaves The U. Finally, expect the Miami staff to develop Frederique into a pure cover corner that can challenge top Power 5 receivers during the most difficult of situations.
