Toledo G Dante Maddox Puts Michigan In Top 5

The Wolverines are courting a sharp-shooting guard who could help drive Michigan’s offense next season.

In his short time as Michigan head coach, Dusty May has sparked new interest in the U-M basketball program, and he’s looking to parlay that momentum into building a deeper roster. With plenty of spots to fill, coach May has turned to former Toledo point guard Dante Maddox to shore up the U-M backcourt.

According to Joe Tipton, Maddox has cut his list of schools down to five, and Michigan made the newest group along with Xavier, Creighton, Louisville and Illinois.

Measured at 6-2 and 195 pounds, Maddox was a consistent scorer for the Rockets last season, averaging 15.6 points per game, but his most impressive quality is his three-point accuracy. Maddox shoots above 40 percent from deep, so his sharp-shooting style could be a good fit in May’s offense. Last season, Maddox was the leading scorer for Toledo’s 20-12 squad, so he’s accustomed to doing some heavy lifting on the offensive end for his team and earned second-team All-MAC honors for his production. Prior to becoming a regular starter with the Rockets, Maddox spent two years out west at Cal State Fullerton as well.

Now, Michigan still needs to host an official visit with Maddox to be a real player in this recruitment, but this situation is developing quickly. As of now, Maddox reportedly has officials scheduled with Xavier, Louisville and Illinois and intends to commit by the end of April. According to the 247Sports.com transfer rankings, Maddox is listed as a four-star and is currently ranked No. 75 in the portal.
