Michigan Offers Top 2022 Tight End Jaleel Skinner

Several years after Devin Funchess floated between tight end and wide receiver at Michigan, the Wolverines believe they may have found another versatile, big-bodied hybrid prospect in Greer (SC) High athlete Jaleel Skinner, who picked up an offer from U-M on Friday.

“That was very exciting for me because Michigan has been in the pool a lot lately,” Skinner told Wolverine Digest. “They've been trying to contact me more and has been showing a lot of interest. For them to finally pull the trigger, that was amazing. They are looking at me as a big wide receiver.”

Standing at 6-5 and 210 pounds, many programs view Skinner as a tight end at the next level, but the 2022 prospect is open to lining up at either spot on offense.

“I think that for me being so big, I'm a lot faster than people think I am,” Skinner said. “I'm open to play tight end because a lot of schools are seeing my as either a big wide receiver or as a flex tight end.”

Last year, Skinner missed a couple games due to injuries, so he didn't have as productive of a season as he would have liked, but this is fueling the junior athlete to enter 2020 in top condition.

“I've been working a lot on making my routes more crisp and getting my head around on my routes and high pointing the ball a lot more,” Skinner said.

According to the new Michigan offer recipient, a quality junior campaign would be a 1,000 yard, 10 touchdown performance this fall. If Skinner can reach those benchmarks, his recruitment will undoubtedly continue blowing up, but he already holds a host of offers from strong Power Five programs. With U-M now in the mix, Skinner has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Penn State and Tennessee, among others.

Though Skinner hasn't been able to visit any of these schools recently during the dead period, he did mention a desire to take trips to Florida State, Penn State, Michigan and Clemson soon. When that happens, a trip up to Ann Arbor would certainly help the South Carolina native learn more about the U-M program.

“The one thing I do know about the Michigan program is how they have one of the biggest rivalry games of the year when them and Ohio State play,” Skinner said.

And though that rivalry has not gone in Michigan's favor lately, Skinner says that the Wolverines program still appeals to him.

According to 247Sports.com, Skinner is listed as the No. 1 tight end in the country and the No. 82 players in the nation for the 2022 class, so Michigan got in fairly early on a recruit who could end up as the top player at his position when all is said and done.
