Spartan Baseball Crushes Saint Joseph’s, 22-1 MSU scores nine runs in first inning en route to victory.

LAKELAND, Fla. - Playing at Joker Marchant Stadium, the spring training home of the Detroit Tigers, the Michigan State baseball team opened up its Spring Break trip with a 22-1 thrashing of Saint Joseph’s (0-9) Sunday evening. The Spartans (2-2) plated nine runs in the first frame, knocking out Hawks starter Chris Prescott after 1/3 of an inning. Four Spartans collected three hits each, including first baseman Evan Friedland, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Freshman right fielder Eli Boike hit two triples and drove in four runs, while junior shortstop Brandon Doherty collected three hits, including a double, to go along with three RBI. MSU returns to action Monday to take on Pittsburgh at 6:05 p.m. in Lakeland.
