Hondo, are you concerned at all that Coach Izzo may retire if we win the NC this year?
With a good financial situation, the age of his children, and the difficulties in recruiting these last two years I am thinking he might just call it a day and go out on top. That would leave me a bit concerned since there is no obvious Narduzzi type to take over now that Coach Crean is at IND. Grant

Concerned? No, because I think most of us on the beat (reporters) and many others think if he does win it that he will move on. Not a controversy, he craves that championship. Not saying for sure either, just saying as many of us who know Tom talk, I think most believe he would move on. I am also 100% convinced that Mark Hollis would go outside the program for the next coach.

Hey H, this may be a silly question...but I noticed the shoes that most of the guards are wearing (the ones with some bright green in them) look more like running shoes. Basketball shoes have traditionally always been "high tops". Any insight on this change? Are other teams going to this type of shoe as well? Thanks, Ryan R Sammartino

Not all players headed that way, but taping of the feet and ankles has come so far, that the extra support of a high top is not always needed or desired. They also have braces and other medical assistance that they wear.

Hondo, I felt terrible for Russell Byrd. So good in the exhibition and struggled in the opener. What is wrong? Pete

Wrong? Russ can do it as you saw; he just has to work through it.

Hondo, I was shocked like you and many others were with Ellis not red shirting. He said it was his idea and so did Izzo. I also know a manager who told me at the time that with Alex Gauna and they said the same about him, but I learned it was more Izzo saying, “If you don’t redshirt, you won’t play.” Same case with Ellis?

No. Alvin wanted to play. He was adamant.

Hondo, what is your biggest concern for this basketball team? Rick Oklahoma City

Easy. I love Payne’s game, but he spends so much time on the perimeter and not on the block that I think that could come back and hurt them. I plan on asking Izzo about that today.

Hondo, thanks for the recent interview with Keith Appling on the radio show. You are right; he has come so far and matured so much. It was a little shocking to me. Seth
