Michigan State became the latest college football program to offer Ian Premer a scholarship. Premer is listed as an ATH and is currently unranked by 247Sports. However, he is starting to garner attention from other schools nationwide.

Premer, a native of Great Bend, Kansas, recently announced his scholarship offer from Michigan State on X, formerly known as Twitter. Premer is an athlete in the 2026 recruiting class, who continues to make a name for himself on the recruiting trail.

However, the Kansas native has received plenty of interest from numerous big-time programs. Michigan State is one of five schools to offer Premer. Other schools include Nebraska, Kansas and Tennessee, among others.

According to 247Sports, Premer "played wide receiver and safety as a sophomore. [He] finished with 32 receptions, 538 yards and nine touchdowns on offense. [He] had 64 tackles, four interceptions and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Averaged 21.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in basketball as a sophomore."

Premer is another unranked player that Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith hopes will take on the tall task of helping him turn things around in East Lansing. Smith has continued to focus on talented players likely to be overlooked by other, more notable schools nationwide. It is a plan Smith will have to execute flawlessly, or Michigan State could pay the cost in future recruiting efforts.

From talent level to recruiting class, Coach Smith continues to recruit with the program's future in mind more than their current state. Michigan State continues to recruit players who are far from finished products but have the potential to be productive players at the right school and under the right coaching staff, which Smith believes is the case for the Green and White.

Smith is strategically building his recruiting classes and the Michigan State program around players hungry to play football in one of the best conferences in America. Smith is banking not only on his ability to recruit but also on his and his coaching staff's ability to develop under-the-radar players. If he can secure enough mid-level talent, Michigan State can gradually grow into a formidable football program in the Big Ten.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
