Strengths: Pickelman is a relentless machine. One fan in an email last year to me called him a cyborg. Not sure what that is, but it sounds about right. He plays with a pure love of the game and all that comes with it. He goes hard in practice, is a super kid, and has the passion it will take to play in the NFL. Against the Irish last season in the fourth quarter they had a first and ten at their own 19. It was a critical part of the game. Big Pick fought a double team, stayed up even with being accosted, and took down the Irish player with a bear hug tackle.. That is him. No pomp. No arrogance, no circumstance. Just brute force trauma.
Weakness: Against FAU last season in the first quarter the Eagles had a first and ten with 7:21 left in the quarter and the ball at the MSU 49. The guard got under the pads of Big Pick and he got stood up on the rush. He ended up on the ground, because at 6’4†no matter how strong he is, technique is still king. He has to remember that from time to time. Not a concern, it can just be a weakness when he is tired.
Final Analysis: I wish every fan in the Spartan Nation could meet this young man. What a super person! You can’t help but like him. If he can stay healthy he can play in the NFL and have a monster season in 2011. My father taught my brothers and I that you always stick with good people. Big Pick is just that, good people, and I can’t wait to see the damage he and White hand out at the NT spot.
