Strengths: Let’s head to the UM game. In the 1st quarter with 2:45 on the clock, the Spartans were facing a 2nd and 10 at their own 45. It was an end around with Bennie Fowler. MAGNUS went five yards BEHIND the line of scrimmage pulling, got upfield and made a crushing block. That block created the space for Bennie Fowler to spring free for six yards.
MAGNUS is blessed with the God given skill and his own motivation to be great. Most OL wouldn’t have gone that far in the backfield, but he had to so he could avoid the traffic and yet he still threw a crucial block.
MAGNUS can do it all. He moves with feet like a WR, hits like a Mack truck and makes an immediate impact. He is a true super star on the MSU OL. I think he is the 2nd best RG in the nation that is why I don’t think he gets All American, but he will play in the NFL if he chooses.
Weakness: We need to take a look at the OSU game to find a play that best illustrates this. Against the Buckeyes, MSU had the ball in the 1st quarter with 5:23 on the clock and facing a first and ten at their own 32. The Spartans had a single RB formation. It was a stretch run to the left. Remember that MAGNUS plays the right.
He was supposed to lay a very quick chip block on the DT and then get to the second level and eliminate the OLB to his side. MAGNUS made the chip block, but being a perfectionist he held it too long. By the time he got to the 2nd level to hit the OLB, the Buckeye had already made the read and was pursuing the play and made the tackle.
How is that his weakness? Simple. It doesn’t matter if it is a game or a practice, MAGNUS is a perfectionist. The DT was NOT going to make the play if he
was simply chipped. MAGNUS wants to seek and destroy people. Sometimes better than pancaking a person, a mere chip isn’t sexy, but it does the job.
Give me 22 players that have MAGNUS commitment and character and I will win a national title.
Final Analysis: MAGNUS is quiet, he isn’t boisterous and he is one of the smartest players on the team. Some would take his quiet manner for arrogance and they would be wrong. He is humble, driven and has the complete respect of his line mates. When he speaks they listen.
His mother passed away 11 years ago and MAGNUS plays for much more than the glory of football. He plays football with a drive and with passion and the way it should be played. He is a wonderful young man and the only thing better than his play, would be his character.
