Strengths: Arnett has the natural body (strength and size) and the speed to be a great WR. Here is a great example of those strengths. Against Northwestern in the 2nd quarter the Spartans had a 2nd and five with 9:32 on the clock. They were at their own 44. Arnett ran a good route but Maxwellâ€™s pass was poor and to the wrong shoulder. Arnett adjusted and made the very difficult catch with his hands. To the untrained eye it was just a catch. To those that understand the game and the difficulty of making that catch on the move, it was something that not all, if many, wide outs can do.

Weakness: Against EMU in the 2nd quarter MSU had the ball at their own 32. It was first and ten. Arnett ran an up and out route and was wide open for the big gain. He bobbled the ball when it hit his body and dropped it. There was no reason to drop the ball. He mentally wasnâ€™t focused, used poor technique, and he hurt his team. Arnett has all the tools to be great, but mental focus is what hurts him.

Final Analysis: It was a tough year for Arnett. While fans clamored to see him more, he didnâ€™t earn that time with his play in practice and frankly with mistakes when he did get on the field. Arnett has to look in the mirror and ask himself how good he wants to be. He has the God-given tools to be an NFL player. Does he have the mental focus? On and off the field, can he develop the discipline to take those gifts and develop as a talent? It rests on his shoulders.

Arnett is not a bad young man. It is time for him to recognize that after being picked last or close to last the last two years by his teammates in the spring draft and after a failed 2012, he is a junior. The clock is ticking. If time runs out on his career and he doesnâ€™t do more with it the young man may live with regret for many years.

He was failed last year as Coach Roushar and Samuel tried to convince Dantonio to red shirt him. It was Dantonio who didnâ€™t realize how bad Tennessee had become and assumed that if he could play there in the SEC as a true freshman, he could play at MSU. His coaches saw the warning signs and Dantonio did not. While fans screamed to see Arnett, he was simply not ready.
