2014 RB Madre London Says Michigan State is a Finalist So Far With Nebraska

Q: Madre, welcome to Spartan Nation brother.

A: Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me.

Q: I wanna start with your pass catching ability – you can catch to the left or to the right. Are you ambidextrous?

A: I’m right handed but to be a good back you have to do all those things as a running back…running the ball, hand blocking and catching the ball. So I work on all those three things to be a good running back.

Q: Do you spend a lot of time on the jugs machine?

A: Yes, sir.

Q: You kinda like it when you get a chance to pop a defensive lineman in the jaw, don’t you?

A: Oh yes, that’s the bread and butter. That’s dinnertime. That’s when you can take advantage of all the things you have been working on and just take it to the D line.

Q: I know that Michigan State has extended an offer to you. What did it mean to get that offer?

A: It meant a lot. I like the Big 10 Conference a lot. Just seeing Le’Veon Bell being a big impact last year as a running back, for them to offer me…to know I can be a big part of the Michigan State fans and all the teams…it’s just a big deal. Especially coming from one of the best head coaches in the country at Michigan State. You can’t get no better than that.

Q: Does Michigan State have a legitimate chance of you putting on the green and white on signing day?

A: Yes sir, no doubt. I’m being truthful on this. Yes sir. It’d be them or Nebraska.

Q: So those are your two finalists?

A: Yes, sir. So far. Those are the ones I’m really leaning into.

Q: You understand that football is what you do, but not who you are. How are you able to keep football in such great perspective?

A: Just keep working hard and gotta keep my head on right. There’s gonna be a lot of (???) out there that judge you and say negative things about you just to bring you down. But you just gotta accept the fact that there’s always gonna be some haters out there. There’s always gonna be some people that are, Oh you’re tough. And all this. You just gotta knock out negatives and keep the positives going. Just keep working hard and keep your head up.

Q: I am told that you have a very gentle heart. You definitely really care about people. Would you talk about where that comes from?

A: It’s brought up from my family, recent teachers. Be a caring person. I feel like if you give back to people, then they give back to you. You can receive just as much from them. I believe in that. Just being nice to people. Everything’s gonna come out in a good way in the long run. You never know who you’re being mean to and they can come back… When you wanna apply for a job and all that, you can’t do it because you’ve been mean to them recently.

Q: Are you Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? What happens when you get on the football field…in the classroom you’re gentle and quiet, but when you’re on the football field you become demon-possessed.

A: I think I’m kinda quiet sometimes at some point, and on the football field I’m kinda quiet. Some of the things I like about college, I like the crowd and I like (???) …one of the best, if not the best. I just like the crowd. We don’t have that much crowd in class so you’ve got no choice but to be quiet.

Q: Mark Staten was visiting with you there last week. Could you tell the Spartan Nation and Spartan fans about that visit? What was it like and what did you think of Coach Staten?

A: He’s an offensive line coach... Definitely he wants to pick one of those running backs that can run behind the big boys and take care of them. He came down for the spring game. He came down a week before the spring game and just really talked to me, saying he’s gonna keep his eyes on me. Hopefully I do good in the spring and something positive can happen out of it.

Q: You got your offer from Mark Dantonio on the phone last week, is that correct?

A: Yes, sir.

Q: So Mark Dantonio called, head coach in the Big 10, and made an offer for you. What did that mean to you?

A: It meant a lot. You know you don’t really see that many head coaches offering a lot of kids. So that meant a lot. It meant I’m a very special person to them and that coaching style. So for him to call and offer me was great. I really like Michigan State.

Q: Are you coming up for a visit this summer to Michigan State?

A: Um yeah, that’s a little problem. We’re all the way at the bottom of the map, so it’s kinda far. But I’m definitely gonna try and take an official visit there, either at a game or after the season. Whichever one is better for them.

Q: Good, so you do wanna make an official come-up?

A: Yes, sir.

Q: Michigan State’s had quite a few great players come out of Florida. Did you know that?

A: Yes, sir. Wide receiver…I’m not sure what his name is, but I know he goes to Michigan State so far.

Q: If you had to pick an NFL running back that you think your style best copies, who would you pick?

A: Adrian Peterson.

Q: You are powerful like him, aren’t you?

A: Yes, sir. That’s who I wanna relate my game to, in every aspect of the game. I wanna relate it to him.

Q: You’re very close to your family. You come from a great family. What do they mean to Madre London?

A: They mean a lot to me. They’re the ones that have been here for me since day one, they keep me going. When everything else is going wrong, you can always depend on them. All they wanna do is see me do good in the long run. I hope I can just repay them back by going to the top school and doing big things. After that I can start feeding them. They don’t have to worry about feeding me.

Q: Are you looking forward to getting the recruiting process over or has it been okay for you?

A: No sir, it’s okay to me. I just tell the Coach straight-up that I’m really looking forward to getting to know all these coaches. I’m taking my time. If they don’t like it, they can do whatever. The thing about Michigan State…I told Coach Danotio I’m gonna take my time in doing what I can, because you’re only gonna have that one chance to make a decision. And when you make a decision you have to deal with it. So he respected that and no doubt he was not gonna pressure me. He’s always gonna be there and just get to know him a lot more.
