Dantonio Adds Two More Big Time Recruits from Ohio to the 2016 Class in DB Austin Andrews & LB Jonah Morris
Since Mark Dantonio’s arrival in East Lansing he has gone to the Buckeye state on multiple occasions to haul in great players. Now sitting with 10 commitments for the 2016 class expected to finish at 25 (Cole Chewins is enrolling this summer as a gray shirt with the 2015 class, but will not go on scholarship until January 2016 with this class) and a whopping six of them are from Ohio.
In the last three weeks alone Dantonio has added seven players, all of the above mentioned six from Ohio are in that group. A staggering number from one state for such a short period of time.
Yesterday was a big day for the green and white adding two powerful and very athletic players. Austin Andrews is a terrific athlete. This 6’1†183 pound youngster from Columbus plays like a man child. He can flip his hips on a dime and still use his terrific vision to eye the ball in the air. He is past his age with the ability to high point the ball at the right moment. The intriguing thing about him is that he is also a ferocious hitter. That is a rare quality in a DB. Many times it is an either or and with Andrews it’s simply a “BOTH.â€
With his taste for violence (meant as a compliment) he could easily move over and play safety in the Spartans scheme. Regardless of star rankings this youngster is a great talent who plays downhill. The second commit from Ohio on Tuesday was a powerful young man named Jonah Morris. Morris is from Akron, OH and plays with a mean streak. At 6’4†and close to 200 pounds what stands out about Morris is simple: kid is a thumper. Whether on offense, defense or special teams he just finds the ball and delivers a blow. With deceptive speed he is terrific for an outside linebacker in the MSU scheme. Watching him run the ball, when he does get stopped you can always count on a violent collision often with the defender paying the price.
An interesting note is that in the MSU scheme the STAR LB spends the most time in space playing coverage. Morris has exceptional hands opening the door for more interceptions as well. I can assure you that Mike Tressel and Harlon Barnett the CO-MSU DC’s will sit up at night dreaming of schemes in which to unleash these young men. Both of these kids are not just prospects, they are football players and there is a big difference.
Times are good in the Spartan Nation and Dantonio may be accumulating more arrows for his quiver of Spartan tricks very soon. Make no mistake about this, the 2016 class is already shaping up to be Dantonio’s best. With several other big time recruits close to pledging and the Spartans being in on many of them, Dantonio’s spring may be turning into an early Christmas.
