Mark Dantonio Kicks Off Spring Football Today!

In the midst of the passion of the NCAA tournament for basketball, MSU head football coach Mark Dantonio will meet with the media to kick off spring football today.
Â
Besides the usual topics, Spartan Nation expects Dantonio to confirm at least three players that will not be returning to the gridiron for his fourth squad, and that there are players who will be getting reps at some new positions.
Â
This will be a critical spring for the Spartans. Second year starting QB Kirk Cousins recently returned from spending his spring break in California working with legendary QB coach Bob Johnson.
Â
Coach Johnson and his son Brett (a former MSU QB) run the Elite 11 football camp and Cousins spent his time shining as he perfected his skill. The Spartans also will try to get an offensive line unit to come together. The Spartans will be very young across the line, but are expected to me much more athletic and physical.
Â
2009 star recruit David Barrent had back surgery and Spartan Nation learned that if he is not ready when the pads go on at the start of camp, they expect him ready towards the end of it. In addition Arthur Ray, Jr. is running full speed now after a bout with cancer. He will not participate in contact this spring, but in the fall will be, “Cleared to compete,†according to Ray last week. He will work very hard all spring on his cardio and conditioning.
Â
Check back later this evening for more news and notes from Spartan football and video from head coach Mark Dantonio.
