BREAKING: Michigan State Football Lands 2nd Commitment of the Day

Jonathan Smith, Michigan State football have started to build the Spartans' 2024 recruiting class...

Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football's new coaching staff are hard at work trying to salvage the Spartans' 2024 recruiting class, and its starting to pay dividends.

The ball got rolling Tuesday afternoon when three-star McKinney (Texas) running back Makhi Frazier committed to MSU. Minutes later, Frazier was joined by three-star Cupertino (Calif.) Homestead tight end Wyatt Hook, who has now also given a verbal pledge to Michigan State. Hook chose the Spartans over offers from Colorado, Washington State, California, Oregon State and Hawaii.

Like Frazier, Hook was originally committed to Oregon State, giving Smith and the Beavers his verbal pledge over a year ago (Dec. 1, 2022). However, once Smith and tight ends coach Brian Wozniak were hired by Michigan State, they quickly reached out to offer Hook a scholarship at MSU. The California native decommitted from Oregon State on Dec. 6, took an official visit to Michigan State on Dec. 8 and is now a Spartan.

At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, Hook is considered the No. 1392 overall prospect, No. 72 tight end and No. 102 player from the state of California in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Michigan State's 2024 recruiting class had been nearly cut in half after former head coach Mel Tucker was fired in late September. Prior to Frazier and Hook's commitments, the Spartans were down to just seven verbal pledges in this current recruiting cycle. Now, with that pair in the fold, Smith and his coaching staff are working towards salvaging the Spartans' 2024 class ahead of National Signing Day (Dec. 20).
