MSU Assistant Brad Salem Gets Two in Wisconsin
Once again, the Spartan Nation finds ourself singing the praises of Mark Dantonio’s newest assistant coach Brad Salem.On Monday, the Spartans got two solid commitments for the 2011 football recruiting class. What made the haul even more impressive was that they came out of Wisconsin's backyard.The Badger state recruits give the Spartans a total of nine commitments for the 2011 campaign with potential for new additions soon.Let’s take a look at both young men.
Mark Scarpinato DT 6’3†258# Milwaukee, WI
This high-motored DT comes with a mean streak as long as the Mississippi River. He is tough and relentless.He forces double teams, which fit the MSU defensive system well in that it frees up linebackers.
There is no doubt he has to get bigger, but he has a big frame to do it.He has surprising speed. Â As long as the weight is added via a Ken Mannie routine, he should lose little or no quickness.He is a young man that consistently overachieves and that is what the Spartans look for.
Trae Waynes CB 6’ 164# Kenosha, WI
This defensive back has speed to burn!He is fast on his feet and plays heads up.He has technique to improve on, but that can be taught.You can’t teach size and speed; he has those natural qualities.With an ability to leap, Waynes was a great addition.The Spartans want the fast, big, and athletic corners and Waynes fills that desire.
He is very aggressive and that isn’t normal among CBs.He loves to come up and smack people.That physical ability can be deadly and this young man has it.He had a Wisconsin offer and was close to a Hawkeye offer when he gave the Spartans his commitment.
For critics of Dantonio who foolishly claim that he wasn’t able to recruit out of the state of Michigan, these two young men give him nine commitments so far, six of them from out of state.
