Drew DeRidder Named Big Ten Second Star of the Week

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State freshman goaltender Drew DeRidder has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, it was announced by conference office on Tuesday. DeRidder backstopped the Spartans to a win and then a tie and shootout win vs. Michigan this past weekend.

DeRidder made a career-high 43 stops in the Spartans 4-3 victory on Friday at Munn Ice Arena, which were the most saves by a Spartan goaltender in nearly two years. It was also the most stops by a Spartan goaltender vs. Michigan since March 2015.

The following night in Ann Arbor, DeRidder made 35 saves in a 1-1 tie. He then went on to stop four more pucks in the 3-on-3 overtime and then all four U-M attempts in the shootout to help MSU get the extra point.

On the weekend, the native of Fenton posted a .951 save percentage.

It's the first weekly conference honor for DeRidder and marks the second straight week a Spartan has been named the Big Ten's Second Star as Taro Hirose garnered the honor on November 27.

The Spartans travel to Wisconsin this weekend to meet the Badgers on Friday and Saturday.
